The monastery at Ettal was founded in the year 1330. The basilica is open all day every day for visitors and those who wish to pray or take part in the religious services.
We, the Benedictines of Ettal, are pleased to welcome you to our internet page, and invite you to look at our monastery, its history and our daily life. As a Benedictine community we live by the centuries-old disciplines laid down by the founder of our Order, Benedict von Nursia, who died approx 547 AD. In the year 1964 Pope Paul VI declared Benedict to be the Patron of Europe.
